GEORGETOWN DISTRICT CHRISTIAN SCHOOL ADMISSIONS POLICY
A - PROCEDURES FOR ENROLLMENT
Contact is made with the school by the interested family. An information package is sent or given and an appointment is made to meet with the Development Director.
The Development Director meets with the family and the student, if possible, and provides an opportunity for the family to visit the school.
The Development Director meets with the principal to ensure that the school is able to offer appropriate teaching to the student as based upon the school?s admission criteria.
Admission Criteria
- suitable program (the principal may ask for testing of the child to determine grade placement, if necessary) - faculty can meet needs/expectations - adequate information from previous school is provided - parents agree to placement and sign forms indicating support of school?s Christian identity - age of student - legal status of guardian - payment of tuition and need for family volunteer hours or payment in lieu of
Factors which may limit enrollment and thus deny admission may include: - class size - classroom space - availability of qualified teachers - parameters of the program - special education needs - transportation availability
Parents are provided with an Enrollment Package which is reviewed with the parent by the Development Director. Completed forms are received from the family including the following:
- Fully completed Application for Enrollment form - Registration fee ? A one-time, non-refundable fee of $700.00. This fee will be waived in cases where parents are transferring their children from another CSI/OACS Christian school. - Enrollment Agreement form - Copies of student?s last report card(s), as requested - Proof of Age (copy of birth certificate or passport) - Immunization records - Proof of insurance (Foreign Students only) - Proof of Student Visa, Landed Immigrant status or Visitor?s Permit (Foreign Students only) - Volunteering cheque of $700.00 (dated for June 1st of the following year) which will be returned if 30 volunteer hours have been completed.
- The enrollment forms are then reviewed by the Principal and/or Development Director and notification is sent to the Board.
- The family is informed of enrollment.
- The family and student become involved in the school community. Within the first year, the family is expected to attend a Membership Seminar after which they are encouraged to apply for membership as per membership guidelines.
B - PURPOSE OF ADMISSIONS POLICY - To ensure a high level of parental involvement and support for the activities of the Christian school and the society.
- To ensure that each student is placed in the most appropriate learning environment.
- To ensure that parents are well informed as to the distinctively Christian character of this school by having appropriate admission procedures in place.
C - ELIGIBILITY Enrollment in the school is open to: - Children whose needs we can meet. - Foreign Students who live with at least one parent or legal guardian and who have the appropriate government and legal documents (i.e. Visitor?s Permit, Landed Immigrant Status or Student Visa) and proof of insurance coverage.
- No child shall be denied enrollment on the grounds of ethnicity, sex, colour, or national origin.
- A child must be five years old in the calendar year in which he/she begins kindergarten.
D - CONDITIONS OF ENROLLMENT
1. Enrollment for all children is subject to the determination and acceptance of the grade/program placement as directed by the principal.
2. Children may be enrolled subject to availability of facilities, maximum class sizes, and registration deadlines as determined by the Principal. Enrollment of students requiring ESL will be limited to two per class.
3. Parents agree to have their children participate in, and attend all courses and activities.
4. Termination of the student enrollment shall be determined by, and subject to, the policies of the Board in the following areas: Disciplinary action recommended by the principal Student Code of Conduct not adhered to Default of financial obligations Non-availability of an appropriate program for child
5. Foreign Students ? Full payment for one year?s tuition must be paid before a letter of acceptance will/can be issued.
6. English as a Second Language Students ? A fee of $2,500 per year must be paid in full upon acceptance.
7. Enrollment for Special Needs Students is subject to the ability of the school to accommodate the program needs of the child. Five (5) hours per week of an Educational Assistant (EA) is available to assist our classroom and resource teachers. Expenses for additional EA time is to be covered by parent/guardian.
8. Enrollment is subject to Society Membership remaining at 70% members in good standing of total number of enrolled families as at the finish of the most recent full school year. For example if 100 families are enrolled, greater than 70 families would be required to be members in good standing, as at the finish of the most recent school year, prior to acceptance of enrollment of a family that would not also agree to Society Membership.
